Back to School Professional learning is a first impression and a lasting one.

Back to school is the most important time for teachers and leaders as professional learning kicks off the excitement of the upcoming school year. Creating joyful learning experiences for teachers will set the stage for engagement in the classroom. At the Joy of Professional Learning we are working with leadership teams and sharing our experiences at conferences. For Back to School professional learning, we begin by designing a week long learning series to get teachers and leaders excited about teaching and learning. From EdCamps to Book Clubs our learning plans turn obstacles into opportunities.

"When the odds are stacked against you, go anyway.Defy the odds."

From the apprentice to learning professional. The path of professional learning.

A perfect fit.

When we design professional learning experiences for teachers are learners first,  growth happens and a shift in culture comes.

We have to seat somewhere. Being an Apprentice is the first step and it is the hardest. This step is the beginning of the journey in a new learning adventure. Going from Apprentice to Learner means a deeper dive in learning. Becoming the Practitioner puts this new learning into practice. It is the time we go from new learning to professional practice.  This step means this new knowledge is ready for the classroom. Finally we become the Master and teaching others is how we embrace the learning and share it with our colleagues and students behind the classroom. This learning journey is the path to becoming the Learning Professional!

Culture changes when we learn together, when the learning is active and there is purpose in our learning.

Bruce Mau reminds us in his manifesto to “AVOID FIELDS, JUMP FENCESDisciplinary boundaries and regulatory regimes are attempts to control the wilding of creative life. They are often understandable efforts to order what are manifold, complex, evolutionary processes. Our job is to jump the fences and cross the fields.”
